grant payment of $5,000 (excluding GST).
The Business Basics Grants
This program provides support to businesses to increase core skills and adopt best practice.
Applications open on 4th May 2022.
Applications will close when they receive sufficient applications for a competitive assessment.
This grant program is competitively assessed. Not all applications will be funded. The first round closed within about 3 hours. Luckily for us and the business owners we assisted in rounds one and two - their Applications were submitted in time and they have received their Funding Approval.
We’re anticipating this round will close sooner due to those who either didn’t get their application submitted in time, or those who submitted their application, but were denied the grant re-applying.
The program is administered by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT).
Approved Funded Activities
If approved for the funding, you must invest the funded money toward at least one of the following areas of your business.
- Training and coaching
- Business development, marketing, human resources or business planning topics
- Training or coaching
- Website build or upgrades
- Website build or upgrade (including website refresh)
- Adding e-commerce
- Developing new website content
- Professional business advice
- Business plans
- Strategic marketing services
- Strategic marketing plans including search engine optimisation advice

As part of your Application, you need to provide a Supplier Quote to substantiate which Funding Activities you plan on investing in should your Application be successful.

To be eligible for this grant, your business must:
- not have been approved for funding under Round 1 of the Business Basics Grants program
- have fewer than 20 employees (by head count) at the time of applying for the grant
- have an active Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST
- have a Queensland headquarters, and be based in regional Queensland (use the eligibility tool to check your location)
- have a turnover of $300,000 or less for the last financial year (2020–21)
- have owners or directors that are not insolvent or an undischarged bankrupt.
